Learning a new foreign language is no easy task, especially if you mean "Polish." Fortunately, we now have a plethora of free learning tools to pick from. Mobile applications will never be able to replace a real language education, but they can help you get there faster! That is why we have chosen several free language apps that will help you speed up your learning of Polish.
1. Duolingo
All avid language learners know the Duolingo website and app well. At the moment, Duolingo offers free courses in more than 30 languages (real and fictional), including Klingon, High Valyrian, and Polish. The game-like lessons are varied, enjoyable, and designed to keep you engaged and motivated. If you put in at least a few minutes every day, you get rewarded with "lingots", Duolingo's currency you can exchange for additional lessons and activities.
2. Tinycards
Tinycards is an easy-to-use flashcard application from Duolingo. The app allows you to both create your own study material or to browse decks prepared by other learners. If used in conjunction with Duolingo, Tincards help you review new vocabulary introduced in your language course.
3. Drops: Language Learning
If you always struggle to find the time for your language practice, Drops is the very app you are looking for. All you need to do is devote 5 minutes a day to learn several new words in Polish. The idea is brilliant in its simplicity - thanks to its crazy time limit, you are more likely to keep your motivation up and practice new words every day. On the plus side, the app is highly intuitive, beautifully designed, and engaging. On the downside, Drops will teach you only the most basic words and phrases.
4. Learn Polish - FunEasyLearn
Learn Polish from FunEasyLearn is probably one of the most varied and comprehensive apps, dedicated to those learners who are just beginning their adventure with Polish. Although the app offers only vocabulary exercises, it is unlikely you will get bored easily – all new words can be practiced in a variety of ways – through listening, writing, speaking or image-based activities.
5. Quizlet
Quizlet is another popular flashcard application, which gives you access to innumerable study sets created by users. The app allows you to memorize words in a traditional way or to test your knowledge - and challenge your friends - in quizzes, which are based on your study material. Quizlet also has a website version, where you can find more language-based games.
6. Memrise
Although Memrise tends to be compared to Duolingo, both apps offer different learning approaches. Memrise focuses mostly on vocabulary and fixed expressions, presented in the form of wordlists with images (or memes) which help memorize all the items. The app is a great learning aid, employing a set of mnemonic techniques that not only foster the learning process but also make retaining the new vocabulary much easier.
7. Clozemaster
This app will make you feel like you went back in time – but in a good way. Clozemaster’s design resembles that of an old-school game and the app itself can get almost just as much addictive. Contrary to most language-learning applications, Clozemaster focuses solely on teaching vocabulary in context: in order to score points and win the game, you need to complete a series of cloze phrases.
