A new assistance plan has been announced for Polish Students in the Science and Higher Education Ministry.
In order to assist students during the coronavirus outbreak, the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education issued a series of recommended guidelines to Polish Universities. Thanks to the Pakiet dla studenta scheme, those who have encountered the "temporary challenging condition" will be able to qualify on the grounds of "exceptional circumstances due to the present epidemiological situation" to request financial assistance from the Institution or the University. Many of the students working in pubs, cinemas or many other companies have now lost their primary source of revenue as Jarosław Gowin, the Minister of Research and Higher Education has pointed out. Students whose families lose their employment due to the COVID 19 pandemic (therefore, they cannot help their families) are now liable for financial support. It has already been announced. The rules above still refer to doctoral students who finished their studies before 2019/2020.
The Minister has also requested Polish universities not to charge students for housing in their residential areas if they want to return home for the length of the crisis, to ensure timely payment for scholarships and grants. Finally, until the end of May, the Ministry expanded the validity of student identification cards to prevent student visits in person.
Until at least 14 April, all Polish universities will remain closed. Most schools have moved to online education, though.
