More than 80,000 foreigners entered Poland to study in 2019, according to Statistics Poland. Which universities and degree programs with foreign students were the most popular?

In the last academic year, the number of foreign students at Polish universities grew by 5%, Statistics Poland has reported. Approximately three-quarters of the 80,000 students come from European countries, namely Ukraine (39,000), Belarus (8,400), Spain (2,300), and Turkey, according to the latest Office survey (2,200). Polish degree programs have also shown to be very popular with Asian students, including India (3,400), China (1,500), Kazakhstan (1,300), and Azerbaijani people (1,200). Last year, foreigners made up 6.8 per cent of all students in Poland.

The majority of foreigners have studied business, administration and law (24,300), social sciences, journalism and information (12,400), health and education (10,800), arts and humanities (8,400) and services (8,400). (nearly 8,000). The Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw, and the Warsaw University of Technology were among the top options for overseas students.

The study also showed that the total number of Polish students, including the ageing population of Poland and a decreasing number of people aged 19-25, has fallen dramatically over the last decade due to demographic changes. The overall number of students in Poland last year surpassed 1.2 million, more than 2 per cent less than a year ago.

Women are more likely to enrol in higher education than males, as reported by Statistics Poland, accounting for over 57 per cent of all Polish students in 2019/20.
