Description
Developing practical skills and educating students willing to find employment in the area of finance and accounting across several specialized fields is central to the Finance and Accounting study programme.
In the previous years the programme was of general academic character with more practical approach by introducing modifications each year via introduction of new elective subjects.
Current F&A study programme approved on April 9th, 2018 by the Faculty’s Council was largely modified in order to make it even closer to economic practice and by doing so to adjust it to labour market’s needs.
In the Perspektywy University Rankings 2021, the Finance and Accounting Faculty conducted by Vistula University, took 3nd place when compared to all non-public universities, responsible for such studies in Poland.
Finance and Accounting with ACCA – Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree studies at Vistula University have once again been appreciated by the Polish Accreditation Committee. The programmes received positive assessments. This is proof of the universities’ desire for a high level of education.
The Commission underlines that Finance and Accounting programmes have been developed, taking into account both the needs of students and the socio-economic environment, in particular, the labour market. It also highly values the competencies, experience, and qualifications of the academic lecturers. It draws attention to the modern teaching and research infrastructure, constant and varied co-operation with the business environment, including employers, and comprehensive activities in supporting students.
About Programme
ABOUT PROGRAMME
The curriculum of Bachelor`s Degree Studies consists of general courses and major courses in the following economic areas: introduction to economics, micro-economics, macro-economics, mathematics and statistics: mathematics 1, financial mathematics, descriptive statistics, mathematical statistics, quantitative methods for business, information and communication technologies for business,
Finance: introduction to finance, public finance, international finance, banking, insurance, corporate finance – financial management.
Accounting: Introduction to accounting – Business accountant, Financial accounting, Bank accounting and insurance accounting, Management accounting, SME accounting,
Others: Introduction to management, Introduction to law, foreign language, entrepreneurship, cross-cultural communication, communication and argument techniques, thesis seminars and advanced techniques of thesis preparation, sport.
The above courses constitute a set of obligatory subjects for students of all majors studying F&A programme. Those courses allow to gain knowledge of and elaborate ability to use mathematical, statistical, regulatory tools necessary to undertake micro- and macroeconomic analysis, to evaluate business situations, to explore and master skills related to majors.
The above programme was awarded the ACCA certificate.

MAJOR: ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Major Entrepreneurship focuses on educating specialist staff able to found and develop their own companies, as well as to promote product innovations, innovative services in the corporate finance management area. An alumnus has knowledge not only in the general financial, accounting and business regulation field but also on companies’ development, including SMEs and their results across several sectors. A graduate is able to appropriately fund its business, in particular its innovative activity, prepare development strategy and to promote it in the form of the business plan. An alumnus is capable to implement his knowledge to found his own company, as well as to share it while working for the consulting firm.

A graduate might use the acquired knowledge to start his own business, but also to take a job of a controlling specialist, of an innovative business specialist in a consulting firm, of a business advisor to the board of management in a company, of a specialist in VC/PE funds, of a capital innovations specialist or a credit inspector in banks and investment funds.
SUB-MAJOR: BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES
A students learn the principles of commercial banking activity at the Banking and Financial services major. An alumnus is able to define a bank system, its participants, their functioning, interconnections, tasks and responsibilities; he/she recognizes financial phenomena in the market economy; understands principles governing banks in the economy; differentiates between bank operations, knows the role of the central bank in the economy in Poland. He\she studies functioning and risk related to bank products; gains deep knowledge on banking sector’s activity.
Moreover after graduating from the major an alumnus is able to use bank products and services, including e-banking and trading in the capital market. He/she can use the knowledge on banking and financial operations to assess credit risk and to manage it. He/she can also utilize bank products in order to take optimal financial decisions. The course on investment and financial instruments provides knowledge on financial services of investment funds. Additionally the insurance services for banking sector constitute an integral part of the major.

Graduates find employment at big commercial banks, in local cooperative banks, insurance companies, investment funds, consulting firms.
MAJOR: ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE
A student gets acquainted with the basic accounting knowledge, its role, types, principles and techniques; international accounting standards. Additionally a student learns fundamentals of taxation, role of taxes in the public budget as well as in the tax-payers budgets, tax strategies, consequences of excessive tax burden; legal aspects. He/she has ability to use accounting principles, as well as to prepare financial reports, record financial events in the books, e.g. to record leasing or consolidate financial reports in case of a merger, to use accounting knowledge in operational and strategic decisions of companies and other organisations (economic entities). A student acquires skills related to analyzing financial position of companies (including liquidity, rentability, efficiency, indebtedness, budgeting), understands threats connected with the excessive budgetary deficit, he/she can analyze relations between public finance, corporates, banks and financial markets, is able to use banking services and investment funds. A student is capable to implement the acquired knowledge in practice in order to prepare SWOT analysis for founding a new business. He/she can also use management accounting tools while administering the company.

Graduates may find employment in an accounting office, a real estate agency, consulting firms, corporates, cooperatives’ accounting departments as an accounting specialist, a controlling specialist, a business analyst, a risk analyst and a specialist in investment process optimization.
MAJOR: ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE ACCA
A student gets acquainted with an accounting system, standards and regulations, he/she studies specifics of financial accounting, management accounting, bank and insurance accounting. He/she becomes a specialist in financial reporting, as well as financial reports’ analysis, acquires knowledge on tax management in a company, on pre-requisites of starting a new company. All the information and skills are further improved during classes on financial markets, international finance and corporate finance, comprising issues related to financial events, sources of funding, appropriate use of equity and debt in order to achieve strategic goals in business, which lead to success, increase in value and competitive position. The achievement of this goal requires learning financial risk assessment, evaluation of investment and financial effectiveness in the changing uncertain and unstable environment. It requires also a multidisciplinary knowledge gained at various major courses which lead to career of an accounting specialist. The syllabuses are prepared and examinations performed for indicated 8 courses according to recognized ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) certificate. The University’s graduates are exempt to take examinations on courses accredited by ACCA and taken during their studies.

The ACCA certificate allows to obtain an internationally recognized accounting accreditation enabling employment beyond Polish borders on responsible positions in the accounting departments. The certified accountants with ACCA certificate are sought by companies, big international corporates, in internal and external audit and consulting firms.
MAJOR: FINANCIAL MARKET ANALYST
The studies combine knowledge from the area of accounting and financial markets. You will be able to gain the knowledge and develop the necessary skills to manage a portfolio of securities and valuation of financial instruments. You will also learn to use modern analytical tools to formulate and implement market strategies. The studies will stimulate your creativity and teach you how to take an innovative approach to finance. You will be ready to start a career as an investment advisor, broker, financial market analyst, or find employment in banks or investment funds.
