Poland has joined the list of European nations that accept the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine Covishield, which is made in India, as proof of travel immunity.

According to the notice made by the Polish Embassy, Indian citizens who have finished their Coronavirus immunization process are entitled to go to Poland without having to adhere to quarantine restrictions after they arrive in the Central European country.

“Poland has recognized Covishield as a vaccine equivalent to those recognized by the European Union, exempting from quarantine after entering the territory of the Republic of Poland,’‘ the embassy pointed out in an announcement on Twitter.

Besides Poland, the following countries also approved the Covishield vaccine for travel:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Hungary
  • Greece
  • Spain
  • Croatia
  • Switzerland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Sweden
  • Iceland
  • Latvia
  • Netherlands
  • Slovenia
  • Finland
  • Bulgaria
  • Spain
  • Romania

According to official numbers published by the World Health Organization, 3,008,394 persons have tested positive for the Coronavirus and its novel variants in Poland since the start of the epidemic, with more than 76,800 people dying (WHO). Furthermore, according to the same source, the Central European country has had 9,403 new instances of COVID-19 infection and 102 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Despite these data, officials in Poland previously opened their doors to all vaccinated travelers with a valid EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate, following the lead of other European Union and Schengen Zone nations in an effort to make travel easier.

Poland only recognized vaccinations certified for use by the European Medicines Agency, according to a news statement published by the country's government at the time (EMA).

The following vaccines have been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which means that anyone who has completed their immunization process with any of the above vaccines is eligible to travel to Poland without having to follow any additional requirements upon arrival, such as quarantine rules.

  • Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty)
  • AstraZeneca EU (Vaxzevria)
  • Johnson & Johnson (Janssen)
  • Moderna (Spikevax)

The Polish authorities further underlined that a person is deemed fully inoculated against the virus if it has been at least two weeks since the previous vaccine dosage. Furthermore, the vaccine must be issued in English or Polish and must fulfil the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate requirements.
