European Travel & Tourism Launches “Destination Summer” Campaign to Hasten EU Border Reopening

According to studyinpoland.info, four airline groups have launched Destination Summer, a coordinated effort aimed at restoring restriction-free travel for European individuals under European Union and national government legislation.
The European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC), Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), Airlines For Europe (A4E), and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) believe that a single European approach should be founded on and implemented through:
- The restoration of freedom of movement, which will come with the deployment of the EU's digital COVID-19 passport,
- Rolling out EU testing capabilities that are economical, quick, and accurate in order to eliminate quarantine restrictions and use antigen tests,
- Resuming non-essential foreign travel by permitting EU citizens from low-infection-rate nations and those vaccinated with EU-approved vaccines to travel.
The European travel and tourism industry, which includes all four associations, encourages aviation, travel, and tourism companies, as well as European individuals who want to travel again, to participate in the Destination Summer campaign by discussing their need and want to travel.
According to Thomas Reynaert, Managing Director of A4E, it is now time to restart travel after 15 months of lockdowns and limitations.
“Our campaign urges policymakers to recognize the speedy, positive impact of vaccinations and scientific knowledge gained in the last year for EU countries to better coordinate and restore free movement for citizens,” he further added.
On the other side, ACI EUROPE's General Director, Oliver Jankovec, stated that if safety precautions are maintained, this summer might be unforgettable for European visitors.
Rafael Schvartzman, Regional Vice President of IATA, stated that it is on to governments to make travel possible again.
“According to a recent survey by IATA, 76 per cent of people want to travel to see family and friends as soon as possible. We have the means, with testing and vaccinations, to safely reconnect people and restart the travel and tourism sector in time for summer,” Schwartzman said.
Julie Lassaigne, ETRC’s Secretary-General, also noted that “together we can make the reopening of travel and tourism in Europe this summer a reality”.
The World Tourism and Tourism Council has applauded the creation of the COVID-19 passport by EU countries, adding that this move can assist restore travel sooner, allowing the economy to recover faster.
Bulgaria, Germany, Denmark, Greece, Czechia, Poland, and Croatia have begun issuing the first COVID-19 passports to their residents as of June 1.
The document will function as a green pass, allowing travelers to move freely throughout EU member states without being subject to entrance restrictions. All people who have been immunized with EU-approved vaccines, as well as those who have recovered from Coronavirus and tested negative, are eligible to obtain one.
