Similar to other European Union and Schengen Area countries, Poland has also decided to open its borders for travelers who hold the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate.

Nonetheless, it has been announced that not all vaccines are considered valid proof of vaccination.

According to a press release issued by the Polish Government, it has been revealed that the country only recognizes the vaccines that have been approved for use by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Wherefore, this means that only the vaccines listed below are recognized as valid proof of immunization in Poland:

  • Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty)
  • AstraZeneca EU (Vaxzevria)
  • Johnson & Johnson (Janssen)
  • Moderna (Spikevax)

Based on the same press release, it has been noted that a person is considered fully vaccinated only if at least 14 days have passed since the last vaccine dose has been taken. In addition, the vaccination should be issued in line with the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate and must be provided in Polish or English.

“The vaccination must be certified by the EU digital COVID certificate or another document, in Polish or English, confirming vaccination with a vaccine that has been authorized in the European Union,” the Government’s statement reads.

Regardless of the means of transport, all fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from the ten-day quarantine requirement that Poland currently has in place.

Earlier in July, Soumya Swaminathan, an Indian clinical scientist who serves as a chief scientist at World Health Organization (WHO), revealed that except for the EMA-approved vaccines, at least 15 EU countries have also been recognized for use the Covishield vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

However, Poland is part of the group of countries that do not recognize such a vaccine since it has not been authorized in the EU.

For all persons planning to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, a new tool was developed by VisaGuide. The world helps travelers check whether the destination they plan to visit accepts the jab they have been vaccinated with.

The Eu Commission has created the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate in order to facilitate travel within the block. Such a document is widely recognized by European countries and is characterized by these  features:

  • One page document
  • Free of charge
  • Issued in digital/paper format
  • Issued in national language and English
  • Safe and secure
  • Valid in all EU countries
