Poland is the third safest country in the EU, according to Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, with only 4.4 percent of Poles reporting crime, violence, or vandalism in their local areas in 2019.

Only Lithuania, with 3.2 percent, and Croatia, with 2.7 percent, we're safer, while the EU average stood at 11 percent.

Using the Eurostat data as a measure of general safety, the least safe countries in the EU are Bulgaria (20.2 percent), Greece (16.9 percent), and the Netherlands (16.3 percent).

France was also above the EU average of 14.7 percent, Belgium 13.3 percent, and Germany 13.1 percent.
