The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) applauded the European Member States' adoption of the COVID-19 passport.

According to studyinpoland.info, Virginia Messina, Senior Vice President, recognizes the necessity of all member states' adoption of the COVID passport.

“WTTC is delighted with the news that Greece, Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Denmark, Croatia and Poland have launched the new Digital COVID Certificate well in advance of the planned July 1 rollout of the programme across the 27-nation bloc,” Messina said.

The new agreement, according to President Messina, will allow individuals of other nations to visit EU nations with proof of vaccination, a negative test, or a positive antibody test. This measure will aid in the revival of international travel, which will occur if the Member States follow suit on July 1.

“The worldwide Travel & Tourism business has been devastated by the COVID-19 epidemic, not only in terms of the millions of jobs lost but also in terms of the industry's contribution to GDP. If international travel is not resumed soon, it will have a negative impact on the economy and hinder the global recovery,” Messina added.

She also stated that the epidemic has a significant detrimental impact on those whose livelihoods are dependent on tourism.

Poland, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, Denmark, and Czechia began issuing the first EU COVID-19 passports on June 1, a month ahead of schedule, in an effort to make travel throughout Europe easier. Meanwhile, after all functionalities have been implemented countrywide, the other nations will introduce the digital passport. Since May 10, the certificate gateway has been successfully tested in 22 countries.

The May 20 political accord will be in force until July 1, when the COVID-19 passport rule will take effect.

In mid-March, the original proposal to create a Digital Green Certificate was accepted. The paper proposes to allow inhabitants of EU member states to freely travel throughout the union, as well as reintroduce travel for vaccinated tourists from other nations.

A COVID-19 passport is available to anybody who has been vaccinated against the virus, recovered from it, or tested negative for Coronavirus. The document will be available in both digital and printed formats and will include a QR code.
