What are study poland intakes?

Information About Admissions and Intakes Abroad

There are two semesters in Poland’s academic year comprising 15 weeks each - the winter and the summer semester. The winter semester lasts from October to mid-February, with about ten days for the Christmas holidays. The summer session lasts from mid-February to the end of June, where students receive a seven-day break for Easter.

The Summer holidays start in July and end in September. The summer holidays are for students who have cleared all their exams within the summer session in June. However, students who failed, need to appear for exams again in September.

Summer vacation lasts three months, from July 1 to September 30, but only for students who completed any of their exams during the summer test session (two three weeks in June).

The choice to apply for more than one intake is available. For example, if you missed the Spring intake, you can always opt for the January intake without waiting for a whole year.

There are two kinds of intakes in colleges abroad - Fall and Spring. Most universities and colleges abroad begin their fall intake in September (which lasts till December), and the Spring intake starts in January (which lasts till May). Few universities and colleges also intake students in April during Summer.

The intakes may differ based on the university and program selected. Some universities may refer to their academic intake as terms or semesters. Check the official website of the institution thoroughly before applying.

  • There are thousands of applicants who apply each year to these universities, making it difficult for universities to accommodate students in one intake.

  • The universities allow two intakes, keeping in mind any constraints the students might face due to which they are unable to seek admission in the fall intake.

When opting for the intake, it is essential to check the availability of your preferred program, test scores, academic records, acceptance rates, job opportunities, and your readiness for the academic year.

It is advised to begin your applications 6-7 months before the commencement of your academic program. Ensure you have all your academic records and scores by April for fall intake and by August for Spring intake.

University

Fall intake is available in all universities and institutions.

Some universities may or may not offer Spring intakes based on the program selected. Check the website thoroughly and speak with the university if needed.

Acceptance Rate

The acceptance rate is low for the fall intake as most students prefer to apply for this intake. This among students, leads to severe competition to get accepted.

You might face less competition for this intake as most students do not opt for it, which increases your chance of getting accepted.

September intake is more preferred by students as it occurs immediately after the completion of their school or undergraduate program. However, students opting for a research program may seek admission in the fall intake as most professors begin their research work at the beginning of the year. Hence, it becomes easier for students to acquire an internship or assistantship in the spring intake.
